Schedule

The NOI published in the federal register initiated the project on February 15th, 2007.  The FAA conducted a public Scoping meeting on March 28, 2007 in Kodiak to gather comments and questions about the proposed runway safety area improvements.  The FAA accepted scoping comments through April 9th.

The team compiled all scoping comments and created a study plan for the EIS during the spring and summer of 2007. The scoping comments can be found here > Kodiak Scoping Comments. Field work and modeling started in September 2007 and were completed in 2009.  The Team is now working on impact assessments and the preparation of the Draft EIS document.

Upcoming:  The next major step in the EIS process is the release of the public Draft EIS for both public and agency review.  The Draft EIS will likely be released in fall/winter 2010, and its release will initiate the public comment period.  The Draft EIS will be available for public review at the local library, Federal Aviation Administration offices, Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities offices, and online on this website.  In addition to opportunities to submit comments via mail and email, a public hearing will also be conducted in Kodiak, AK to receive additional verbal or written public comments on the Draft EIS.  The public hearing date and time will be advertised once the Draft EIS is released.  Comments received during the comment period will be reviewed during the completion of the Final EIS, and all substantive comments will be included
